Jonina Duker is a lifelong volunteer. She first began volunteering as a child and has never stopped. During 2013, she devoted her volunteer efforts to organizations including Montgomery Blair High School (MBHS), Montgomery County Public Libraries, Congregation Beth El, JCC of Greater Washington, Jewish Genealogy Society of Greater Washington, and Strathmore Hall. Of her volunteer hours that were tracked in 2013, 1,001 hours were spent at MBHS. Much of which was spent writing grants, doing research, tutoring ESOL students, mentoring minority students through the college application process, finding free SAT tutoring, legal assistance, and medical care for a student refugee, organizing staff appreciation events, coordinating NIH and GSA equipment donation programs, managing transportation to away events for sports teams, helping with the Latin program advocacy, and supporting front-office staff. Jonina also served on the Davis Library Advisory Committee as well as the Chair for both the library and disability inclusion committees at Beth El. She assisted at the Jewish Genealogy Society of Greater Washington and for five years, she received recognition from the JCC of Greater Washington for volunteering over 300 hours in a year.
